This network includes:

• Nonprofits

. . . all connected in different ways.

You might wonder, “Why are there so many separate entities?”

At the center is the Community of Jesus, but much of the land and assets are held by separate related entities. Together, just a portion of these properties total over $25 million.

Why are these assets held across multiple organizations instead of in one?

Looking at financial filings, we can also see how the money moves in this network.

• Arts Empowering Life gave $100,000 to the Community of Jesus for the construction of the sound studio. Why was that grant made? And which entity owns and operates that studio?
• The Arts Empowering Life Trust provided funding to Arts Empowering Life, and also issued a $400,000 loan to the Performing Arts Building Foundation.
• The Paraclete Foundation has also distributed grants to several of these organizations over time. You might notice many of those grants go to organizations within that same network. Why is that?
• Paraclete Press also received pandemic relief loans that were later forgiven through federal programs. You might ask, “Why were new nonprofits formed in 2020, and why were assets transferred into them?”

These kinds of structures can be complex and not always easy to follow from the outside. These structures can serve different purposes, but they can also make it harder to see how organizations are connected and how resources are used.

And understanding that information helps people make more informed decisions.
